General Description:

Participants will go over the changes in preparation, compilation, and review engagements using SSARS rules, followed by a general overview of how to perform these services. This interactive workshop designed for practitioners in small and medium-sized CPA firms will include lecture with generous time for questions and case studies. Participants are encouraged to ask questions.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between preparation, compilation, and review usage including when to use each service.
  • Describe usage of the new compilation and review reports.
  • Demonstrate FRF vs. GAAP accountant reports for your client.
  • Describe the changes as the SQCS becomes SQMS.
  • Develop checklists to use for preparations, compilations, and reviews.
  • Apply materiality rules to review services.
  • Summarize required analytical procedures.
  • Interpret documentation rules for a review.
  • Employ alternatives to standard reporting services.
  • Discuss practical ideas and ways to implement relevant changes in the firm.
  • Identify and implement keys to profitable engagements.
  • Apply the SSARS rules.

Instructors:

Mark F. Wille, CPA, has been a peer reviewer and a member of the California CPAs Accounting and Auditing Committee for more than 30 years. His practice consists mainly of small business clients for whom he provides substantial strategic planning and financial coaching. He provides consulting for CPAs regarding various accounting and auditing matters and practice management, performs annual peer review inspections, and assists in the sale of their practices. Mark recently sold his practice to JLK Rosenberger CPAs.
